Auctions for free stuff at Listia.com

So, I stumbled upon Listia by accident. I had been searching for ways to get rid of some of my things because my wife and I will be moving in October. As I was searching I just happen to see a small ad for Listia which basically said get rid of old junk. I decided it wouldn't hurt so I clicked on it to see what I could find out.
I was actually pretty surprised by the site's over all flow and how the whole program works. It is an ingenious idea to help people get rid of some of there old stuff that is just laying around. So here is how it works:

The whole system is based on the points that you get on the Listia website. These points can be obtained through several ways. You begin with 500 points and can get more through various free opportunities such as inviting friends, completing offers (such as a free trial of netflix), listing auctions and filling out surveys. Pretty much non of these ideas for getting points are not new. They have been around for a while and many websites use the same ideas. The problem that often occurs are either the "free" offers end up costing you actual money or the surveys do not work or they are surveys that end up bombarding you with ads and emails to get you to buy things. Luckily the surveys on Listia are actually legit. I did a couple surveys and was able to get around 3,000 points in no time. The surveys can take some time, but at least they are not trying to get you to buy things.
First, you sign up for the website. (Don't worry, it is completely free and you don't need to give any Credit Card info.) It will ask for your name, location, and email address. These things are needed for giving away and receiving items. It is a very simple and fast process.
After you sign up it is really up to you what you would like to do next. You will have that 500 points starting out so if you want to you can just start bidding on things and get some items, or start posting your items and it's pretty easy to get some points that way. I posted a $25 Bed Bath and Beyond gift card that my wife and I have just never used and ended getting over 14,000 points for it. It was a nice seamless flowing system and was no problem at all.
They have everything from rocks that people have found in their yard that they think is cool, to xbox 360s or diamond rings. Since it is completely up to the users what is up for auction, you have a wide verity of products to bid on. However, because of this same reason you do have to be careful what you bid on. There are some cases where people will post items that are too good to be true and ask for $5 shipping, then when the auction in over and you send the money they don't send anything. So the best thing you can do is use proper judgment. Listia does everything they can to tell you if people are trusted or not, but ultimately it is up to you.
I think Listia is a fun and effective way of getting rid of some of the junk around your house you haven't used in years. Not everything is perfect, especially some of the functions of the website and android app, but overall, it's a good system. When I tell people about it I say it is like a Goodwill that you actually get rewards from. So I would give Listia a solid B.
